【Story Summary】
Dolls dancing in battle, adults driven by revenge—the stage turns. (Il Teatrino)
The setting is a certain place in Europe. The "Social Welfare Corporation," a public interest corporation—ostensibly a Prime Minister's Office-sponsored project for supporting people with disabilities—was actually an intelligence agency that secretly eliminated forces hostile to the government by giving dying girls mechanical bodies and "conditioning" them.
These girls, who became "cyborgs" in exchange for their lives, each had a dedicated officer who always acted together with them, earning them the nickname "Fratello" (siblings).
For these girls, whose memories of their natural lives were sealed away by the "conditioning," following their officers' orders and fighting with guns was their greatest happiness.
The complex interplay of the pasts and feelings of those on the Social Welfare Corporation side, including the cyborgs and their officers, and those on the opposing Five Republics side, inevitably leads to a tragic climax.

This is the second DVD of the second season of the TV animation series based on Yu Aida's popular comic, depicting the actions of the Fratello (brother and sister) who carry out secret missions for the government. This volume contains episodes 2, "Pinocchio," and 3, "Simulacra." Pinocchio (Daisuke Kishio), a young assassin for the Five Republics faction with a genius-level talent for killing, is ordered to protect Franca (Eriko Hirata) and Franco (Hiroki Yasumoto), who are plotting to blow up the Messina Bridge. Meanwhile, the Fratello, consisting of Hilscher (Masaya Matsukaze) and Triela (Atsuko Enomoto), heads to Montalcino to search for Cohen, who went missing while investigating Pinocchio... This marks the beginning of the "Pinocchio arc," but the portrayal of the Fratello and his group feels rather superficial compared to that of Pinocchio and the other members of the Five Republics faction. I don't intend to reject the cute-girl battle action genre itself, but it feels too superficial and fails to connect with the inner sadness. (Tatsuya Masutou)
