Seiko's "King Quartz 0852-8025" is a model that was born in the mid-1970s during the high-end quartz competition.
At the time, Seiko released the world's first quartz wristwatch, the Astron, in 1969, and subsequently released a series of quartz watches that were both practical and highly accurate, and the King Quartz was positioned as a ``high-end practical watch'' among them.
Many 0852-8025 models have been confirmed to have been manufactured around 1976, and the equipped movement is "Cal.0852". It was an extremely accurate quartz watch at the time, with a monthly difference of ±10 seconds.
This model features a sharp case design typical of 1970s Seiko and a dial with a unique texture.
In particular, "frosted" treated cases and Japanese paper-like textured dials called "rice paper dials" are popular in the current vintage market.
The size is approximately 36-37mm, making it easy to wear even in modern times. Many models come with a day-date, and there are also models for Japan that come with an English/kanji calendar.
Although King Quartz was not as ultra-luxury as the later Grand Quartz, it was praised as a "luxury machine for everyday use" due to its exterior finish and high practical precision.
Therefore, it is now popular among collectors as "one of the completed versions of domestically produced quartz from the 1970s." In particular, 0852-8025 is a model that is being reevaluated for its unique dial design and case finish.
