This masterpiece is made using Maeda Dyeing's dyeing techniques, cultivated over many years in Kyoto. All weaving, dyeing, and sewing processes are completed in Japan. Made from 100% cotton, the loosely woven "mon" fabric offers excellent breathability and absorbency, becoming softer with use. The fabric is finished by soaking it in green tea extract (tea catechin), which provides natural deodorizing and antibacterial properties. It dries quickly and is portable. Versatile for uses beyond wiping, these tenugui are perfect for outdoor activities where carrying limited items is a priority.
The brand name comes from the Japanese giant salamander, "Andrias japonicus." It inhabits the upper reaches of the Kamo River in Kyoto, where Maeda Dyeing's factory is located. Known as a "living fossil," it has survived for approximately 30 million years and continues to exist today. Emblematic of the philosophy of "applying ancient wisdom to modern outdoor activities," these tenugui utilize traditional techniques for outdoor use.
