Morion is a type of black quartz, and due to the nature of the mineral, it is translucent when strong light is shone on it. Morion is opaque and black in color, and when light shines through it, it appears as a dark brown color. Cairngorm and smoky quartz, on the other hand, are transparent and have a reddish-brown color.

Morion is said to be the most powerful stone for warding off evil and negative energy.
